Director General: Prof. (Dr) Ramesh Durbarry, G.O.S.K.

Dr Durbarry was appointed as Director General of the Civil Service College, Mauritius in August 2015. Ramesh has a wide experience of higher education in UK and in Mauritius. Ramesh completed his BSc (Hons) in Economics and obtained the first scholarship awarded by the British Council to follow a Masters degree in Economic Development and Policy Analysis at the University of Nottingham. He then completed his PhD in Economics at the same university. He started his career as Lecturer in Economics at the University of Mauritius but his career venture started in UK when he joined-the Nottingham University Business School as a Research Fellow. He was later appointed as Lecturer in Research Methods and then as Associate Professor in Tourism Marketing and Management.

Ramesh came back to Mauritius to lead the School of Public Sector Policy and Management at the University of Technology, Mauritius in 2003 and later on developed the School of Sustainable Development and Tourism in 2008. In 2012, he joined the newly incorporated UOM Enterprise under the UOM Trust as CEO. He was later on approached by the University of Bedfordshire in UK to become the Head of Department of Marketing, Tourism & Hospitality.

Before joining the Civil Service College, Mauritius, he was Deputy Director and Professor in Tourism at the Amity Institute of Higher Education. His research focuses on tourism and travel, tourism taxation, price sensitivity of tourism and the impact of the tourism sector on the various economies, with a keen interest on climate change and sustainable tourism.He is very research active and has published articles in leading international journals and has contributed chapters in international books.

He has worked on various projects for organisations such as WTO, UNWTO, EU, UNCTAD, VisitScotland, EMDA among others.He has recently been elected as the Vice-Chairman of the Sanya International Tourism Education Forum of the Hainan Tropical Ocean University.
